The Music Museum (The Best Singles of 1956 to 2007)
The Music Museum
I love music - pop music in particular. I began my love affair in 1981 when I heard Ultravox's 'Vienna' on the radio and obsessed about the pop charts ever since (well, until about 2007 when the charts became obselete because they weren't based on physical record sales anymore and became meaningless, notwithstanding the decline in actual musicians making the music that's in the charts these days)
I knew there was a lot of chart music I'd never heard and, with the advent of Spotify, I was able to listen to every single song ever to grace the top 40. So I began with the 1973 chart for reasons I won't go into here and reached 1989. I then went back to 1960 so I could catch up with 1973 before going on to 1990 and beyond.
So, beyond this waffle, here are the links for the blogs (just click the year you want), each of which looks at a year of pop music (where I listen to every song that hit the top 40 in that year) and I choose what I think were the best 40 singles, write a little bit about each and link to a Spotify Playlist (and sometimes, a YouTube playlist) so you can listen as you read along.
